Members of the swimming team participated in a swimming competition last week in Tallaght Leisure Centre. They swam in races with children from seven other schools. They had a great day and while they were representing St Aidan’s they brought home gold, silver and bronze medals! Well done to those involved.

Our 3rd class boys football team played two challenge matches against St. Thomas’ in Jobstown last week. Our team was very well prepared by Mr. Mc Cullagh. We were lucky to win one match and the second team from St Thomas’ school won the second game. The boys played very well and really enjoyed the challenge

Some of our 6th class girls have been working very hard at breaktime and lunchtime helping the children from 3rd class in the Junior yard.

Our yard buddies taught games to small groups and play with them during yard times. The children from 3rd class have great fun playing new games and learning skipping rhymes that they can use when they are out playing.

Swimming lessons are continuing this term for the 3rd class children. At this time of year, coming into the summer months, water saftey is very important.

Our water Safety notice board has information about keeping safe near water. It also tells us the phone number to call in case of emergency.

We will be having a gala in June and children who were involved in swimming lessons during the week can participate.

From October 2012, 3rd class pupils were taken indoor for coaching each week. From November 3rd and 4th Classes had an indoor league which was very successful. The winning team was called Tiobrad Arann and team names were: Lee Walsh, Cian Duff, Roberto Condurache, Martin McAleer, Thomas Kinnear, Scott Boylan, Harry Badmus and Gary Connors.

Later (February 2013) a 5th and 6th class league took place and on the basis of both leagues our school junior Go Games team was selected  We now have a strong panel of over 30!!

5 Teams from Dublin schools competed with one another. We were very successful winning two games decisively  drawing one and losing one. At this stage we are awaiting other results but are in the top three and may have the opportunity to play in a final to win the league .

We are thoroughly happy with our progress and with the input from John Kelly of St. Marks G.A.A. Club, we hope to win outright next year!! We are encouraging as many players as possible to join a G.A.A. Club and develop their skills over the summer.

It is gratifying to know how important the school staff feel hurling, camogie and all sports in general are for the pupils and their support is very much appreciated!    Mol an Óige agus tiocfadh siad!!!!!

Miss O’ Donoghue has begun dancing, mainly hip hop in St. Aidan’s this year. It has been a roaring success. Throughout the year she has taken 3rds, 4ths, 5ths and  6ths. Some real talent has been spotted in St. Aidan’s and all participants were considered for the corfheile. Those chosen put in a lot of hard work with practise before and after school. With everyone keen to increase activity the dance group successfully incorporated the step it up routine into their performance.
